
The
II International Ballet Competition
"Maya"
was held in St.-Petersburg in December of 1996.
The international Jury consisted of the world
known choreographers, dancers, ballet critics,
and impressarios and was chaired by Maya Plisetskaya.
Viacheslav Samodurov, Mariinsky Theater, St.-Petersburg (the
First Prize male winner); Olga Pavlova, Imperial Russian Ballet (the First
Prize female winner); Danila Korsuntsev, Moscow Academic Theater of Classic
Ballet (the Second Prize male winner); Igor Yebra, Victor Ullate Ballet, Spain (the
Second Prize male winner); Anastasia Yatsenko, Bolshoi Theater, Moscow (the Second
Prize female winner); Andrey Ivanov, St.-Petersburg Academic Ballet Theater
(the Third Prize male winner) became the
laureates of the Second Competition. The special
prize "For the Best Partnership" was
awarded to Anna
Reznik, Moscow Renaissance
Ballet. The special prize of the Jury "For
the Best Choreography of a Contemporary
Piece" was given to Natalie Weir (Australia), Nikolay Androsov and Yury Petukhov
(Russia).
